“From the end of the earth will I cry unto you. When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2

The rock of a shipwrecked mariner

Goes down to the bottom of the deep waters

And rises up again in refuge

If not firm at the bottom of the deep

T’would be as quicksand

Christ in his humanity

Deep in our sorrow and sufferings

Deep in our sins and shame

The rock, deeper than all

Whose sufferings and sorrows

Go much deeper

Immanuel, God with us

Waves and billows pound in vain

Against the rock, unable to move it

Sins, sufferings, sorrows of the elect

The wrath of God and fury of hell

Thrashed against that rock,

Unable to move it from its place
