Shifting Sand

Look very closely at this picture.  The shifting sands have not only covered the foundation of the lighthouse but the buildings attached are often covered and then partially uncovered.  The story behind this is very interesting.  Read it here:

The shifting sand creating this phenomenon clearly spoke to me of much that is going on in Christianity today.  I can’t even say in church today.  It screams it is the entire scope of Christianity.  Now before you go on the attack for that statement, I acknowledge there are many in the body of Christ who hold true to the foundations of their faith, who have “seen the light so to say” by stepping away from much of the hoopla that supposedly represents Christianity today, and many who are truly seeking the truth from our precious Scriptures.  Saying that, I must also say these are quickly becoming the minority.  It frightens me sometimes to see many who have been swayed by those who can tickle their ears.  It angers me more that those who are swayed once stood on a solid foundation.  Many more who are looking to find a solid foundation find their feet placed in the sand (willingly or not) because truth is becoming relevant, truth is becoming degraded, and truth is becoming surrounded and buried with lies.  End of rant. On to the real subject.

Luk 6:46  “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?
Luk 6:47  Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:
Luk 6:48  He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
Luk 6:49  But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”  NKJV

My paraphrase:

Whoever comes to me (salvation), hears my sayings (belief/faith) and does them (walks in truth)…………….is like a man building a house.  He dug deep (searched the Scripture) and laid the foundation on the rock (Jesus Christ/Word of God).  Remember John 1:1.  And when the flood arose, the stream (pick your “movement”) beat vehemently against that house, and COULD NOT SHAKE IT, for it was founded on the rock.

But he who heard (is that you) and did nothing (didn’t study the word to discern truth) is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation (or shifting sand), against which the stream (pick your “movement”)  beat vehemently; and immediately it fell (believing the lies, deception and false prophets). And the ruin of that house was great.  What is that ruin?  Storms, unsafe harbor, seduction into the deception of today, and on and on………………..

Eze 13:9  “My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and who divine lies; they shall not be in the assembly of My people, nor be written in the record of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
Eze 13:10  “Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace—and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar—
Eze 13:11  say to those who plaster it with untempered mortar, that it will fall. There will be flooding rain, and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear it down.
Eze 13:12  Surely, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the mortar with which you plastered it?’ ”
Eze 13:13  Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it.
Eze 13:14  So I will break down the wall you have plastered with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be uncovered; it will fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.
Eze 13:15  “Thus will I accomplish My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it with untempered mortar; and I will say to you, ‘The wall is no more, nor those who plastered it,
Eze 13:16  that is, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace,’ ” says the Lord GOD.

There is much in these verses that should speak to us and cause us to walk the narrow path, but the most frightening to me are the words “they shall not be in the assembly of My people”.

Untempered mortar is spoken of here in these verses.  Untempered mortar makes for a shaky foundation does it not? The definition of untempered is “not brought to a proper consistency”.  Relevant Christianity today is not consistent.  It is bendable.  It is fluid.  It is not something you can stand on safely.

Paul tells the Corinthians to build on the foundation but be very careful how you build on it.

1Co 3:9  For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.
1Co 3:10  According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
1Co 3:11  For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Again I am told that foundation is Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ is the Word of God in the flesh.  The Word of God is that foundation. The rock that is our foundation. Build on something solid.  Build on the Scriptures.

I’ve had the opportunity (not the first word I would choose but the one I will use) over the last couple of years to dig into the foundation of many of today’s teachers/preachers.  I have discovered their surface stuff, the stuff they are promoting as a “new move of God”; a new “movement”; a new revelation; whatever you want to call it is built on a shaky or cracked foundation.  It is built by man with untempered mortar and IS NOT SOLID.  So I did some google searches on foundations.  Made me laugh!  The following sent me into laughter so hard I had tears.

Problems like these should not be taken lightly. Cracks in the interior walls are unsightly and reduce the value of your house, cracks in the brick walls admit wind and rain that damage the sheathing insulation and interior walls. Poorly fitted window sills and doors let in outside air and result in high utility bills. Roof loads damage the wooden beams, insulation, interior walls and ceiling, and electrical wiring. Shifting of the soil foundation may also cause gas and water lines to loosen or bend, creating unsafe conditions and fire hazards.

Now read that again and think of the foundation of your faith or of those you follow.  Look at some of the wording.  Unsightly, reduces the value, admits storms creating damage, poorly fitted garments, causes lines (truth/morals)  to loosen or bend, creates unsafe conditions.  My laughter did not come from the lack of seriousness of what I am seeing today, but rather from the picture it placed in my mind of the Christian with a faulty foundation.   Those words describe me two and a half years ago. Before the Lord opened my eyes.

So what is the answer.  Very simply it is found in our Bible.  Go figure.

1Ti 6:20  O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge—
1Ti 6:21  by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.

and

2Ti 2:11  This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him.
2Ti 2:12  If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.
2Ti 2:13  If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
2Ti 2:14  Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.
2Ti 2:15  Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Ti 2:16  But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
2Ti 2:17  And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort,
2Ti 2:18  who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.
2Ti 2:19  Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
2Ti 2:20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
2Ti 2:21  Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

Finding myself in a position of having to try to show loved ones where there might be deception/false teaching, etc. I have only discovered most recently that I can throw “The Book” at them trying to refute and dispute what they are swallowing and they will resist.  But if the challenge is presented to set aside what tickles their ears and for them to look to the foundation of it (that which tickles their ears) I am much more successful in gaining a receptive reaction.  Where did this person who is teaching/prophesying this come from?  What were their beginnings?  Who promoted them? Did they have a solid foundation before they started proclaiming they had the only truth or the new truth?  What might have caused the shift or crack in that foundation? DIG before you build and make that your foundation!

To those of you out there trying to find that solid foundation.  Look to the Scripture, test what you hear and read and sing against the Scriptures, and DIG INTO the foundation of those whose teachings/movements you follow.

Be blessed………

Pro 10:25  When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.
