I have been absolutely amazed at the hits this blog has gotten from this previous post in March. link here
The searches that are coming up and landing people here are very specific to practice what you preach. What is that saying today? Something very frightening I think. People are watching those who profess to be “Christian” and starting to ask that age old question. Why don’t they practice what they preach?
I have found myself attempting to answer that question to someone I have in the past months just started getting to know. She is a non-believer and has had some dealings now with two people who profess they are Christian, yet have shown her no such thing. They have told her she must have a personal relationship with Christ (which she must if she is to be a believer). They have told her they speak truth always because they are Christians yet boldly lie to her face. I have personally witnessed this. They have assured her their actions will always be in her best interest (for we are to love one another right?), yet stabbed her in the back. Two different people, two different situations, two professed Christians who do not practice what they preach.
It is no wonder the world today is turning against Christianity. It is no wonder the world today is seeing a shift in a belief system that is rapidly becoming diluted. It is full of cheap grace, culture relevant salvation and self postulating justification. In other words, it’s all about ME.
The Bible tells us very clearly there will come wolves in sheep’s clothing. It tells us very clearly there will be false teachers and false prophets. There will be those who do not practice what they preach. Again I go to Matthew 23.
Mat 23:29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,
Mat 23:30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
Mat 23:31 “Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
Mat 23:32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt.
Mat 23:33 Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?
Jesus said it very plainly: “you are witnesses against yourselves”. The world blames God for their words vs. their actions. Yet Jesus clarifies for us, if we choose to see, that their words and their actions will witness to who THEY are not who God is.
This is a wake up call to Christians everywhere. Wake up! Practice what you preach!
